CHEA Disclosure Public Comment and Noticed_Combined Accreditation Operating Procedures (AOP) Section 5DeboraBellCUDCP (Council of University Directors of Clinical Psychology)This comment is provided by the Board of Directors of the Council of University Directors of Clinical Psychology (CUDCP). CUDCP echoes the VAPTC’s comments. We agree that a statement that educates consumers about how to interpret the required disclosure information and provides appropriate cautions would help consumers understand the heterogeneity of circumstances that may lead to a reporting requirement (ranging from major to minor), understand that accredited programs with reporting requirements DO meet the standards of accreditation and that ongoing reporting is part of an effective accreditation system, and can help avoid misinterpretation/over-interpretation of important but necessarily concise information.
CHEA Disclosure Public Comment and Noticed_Combined Accreditation Operating Procedures (AOP) Section 5JulioBrionezAmerican Psychological Association of Graduate Students CommitteeThe APAGS Committee appreciates that the APA Commission on Accreditation (CoA) is offering the opportunity for a period of public review and comment on recent changes to their policies on making accreditation decisions publicly available. We believe that proper information sharing will benefit an accredited institution's constituents, including current and potential employees, as well as current and prospective students. We have three core concerns with these proposed changes. First, of significant interest to APAGS are proposed modifications that remove CoA’s responsibility to correct inaccuracies and misleading information about a program’s site visit report. We understand that CoA is not required to publish such a statement, but a program may choose to disclose or provide a summary of it publicly inaccurately. If this were to come to CoA’s attention, the duty to request corrections or retractions should remain. CoA should make it an obligation and responsibility to request rev... See Full Comment
CHEA Disclosure Public Comment and Noticed_Combined Accreditation Operating Procedures (AOP) Section 5FrancineConwayNational Council of Schools and Programs in Professional PsychologyWe at NCSPP appreciate CoA’s continued efforts to increase the transparency of accreditation decisions. After a careful review of the changes to procedures regarding disclosure of Commission on Accreditation decisions, we have no concerns or objections to the proposed modifications.
CHEA Disclosure Public Comment and Noticed_Combined Implementing Regulation (IR) D.8-1JoshuaWolffDivision 44, APAGS, CECP, Division 17 SLGBTiDivision 44, CECP, APAGS, and Division 17 SLGBTi welcome the APA Commission on Accreditation’s (CoA) proposed steps for providing greater transparency around program accreditation decisions, as noted in the categories outlined in the recent Public Notice and Call for Comment. This has long been a priority to the Divisions, APAGS, and CECP, as we have argued in previous public comments and correspondence to the CoA. The Divisions, APAGS, and CECP also acknowledge and fully support the value in posting this information on the CoA website, as this makes the information available in a much timelier manner and can be accessed by the public. However, we have some concerns about the proposal to delete the annual update to the membership of the APA via the American Psychologist (AP). All APA members receive the AP and many presumably peruse the accredited programs section of the December issue. It comes to their doorstep or email inbox easily, whereas people would need to visit the accred... See Full Comment
CHEA Disclosure Public Comment and Noticed_Combined Implementing Regulation (IR) D.8-2FrederickGrieve I am wondering to what the asterisks in Item 2 Publicly-Available Information refer. I assume they are going to link to the deleted note above, but I do not see where that goes.
CHEA Disclosure Public Comment and Noticed_Combined Implementing Regulation (IR) D.8-2AmySilberbogenVA Psychology Training CouncilIn regards to the following statement: "CoA decisions including accreditation status, deferrals, and adverse actions, and a list of any standards to which a program is required to respond, will be disclosed in the directory of accredited programs on the accreditation website." The VAPTC noted that two programs with very different concerns could look identical on a website that only addresses a list of standards with no determination of severity of concerns. Perhaps a disclosure statement could be added to encourage users to interpret with caution? We would advocate for some level of education to consumers about how to interpret programs who have standards that need a response (either from CoA or the program itself).
CHEA Disclosure Public Comment and Noticed_Combined Implementing Regulation (IR) D.8-2KristenKnight-GriffinCommission for the Recognition of Specialties and Proficiencies in Professional Psychology (CRSPPP)CRSPPP supports the proposed updated policy that increases clarity and reflects transparency of the accreditation process and decisions. CRSPPP also supports the presence and availability of historical information (e.g., the accessibility of past decisions and availability of information for accredited applicants/programs).
