At the APA’s 2016 review, several dozen professionals offered testimony contesting its accreditation process, asserting that it was not in compliance with DoE guidelines that mandate the teaching of a representative diversity of theories, perspectives and methologies, since the vast majority of its approved programs are dominated, functionally exclusively, by a CBT orientation, potentially creating a monopoly. While APA was not sanctioned, they were required to defend, for the first time, their accrediting procedures. The solicitation of comments at this point in the current review cycle on the revised document entitled “Modifications to Accreditation Processes” has aroused little attention in the APA community because it requests input into terminological and procedural minutiae while failing to provide a forum for substantive discussion of the impact of the APA’s accreditation...
