Implementing Regulation (IR) D.2-4
Implementing Regulation (IR) D.2-4. Policy on Scheduling Site Visits & Self-Study Expiration

As an internship coordinator and site visitor, many aspects of this update make sense. I do think supplemental material and information may be helpful if it has been over a year since the self-study is submitted. I do support the year timeline. However, I know that there can be unexpected delays outside of control, and I have concern about a new self-study needing to be completed if it takes the Commission longer than three years to review the program. This appears to be a burden upon the programs and that is entirely out of their control.

As a Training Director, I have concerns about the potential for undue burden on training programs in relation to submitting a new self-study if more than three years has lapsed since the original submission. The time required for the CoA to review the self-study and schedule a site visit is entirely outside the control of the program; creating a self-study is a significant and time-consuming task. While I support a potential request for supplements to the self-study to address changes that have occurred in the lapsed time, I do not believe it is appropriate to potentially require a new self-study due to factors that only the CoA controls.

As a Director of Training, I appreciate that a program or aspects of a program can change between the self-study and site visit. I think a viable solution to address any changes would be for sites to provide supplemental or updated materials (as mentioned). However, asking sites to re-do the entire self-study places an undue burn on the training sites and holds them responsible for delays in scheduling the site visit. I can appreciate the difficulties APA/CoA may come across in scheduling timely site visits, but as a site visitor, I would imagine updated/supplemental materials would suffice for the site visit.

APPIC
The APPIC Board appreciates the Commission providing clarity and transparency regarding site visit schedules and expiration timelines of self-studies.? However, these updates should take into account the significant delays that have occurred in reviewing self-studies and scheduling site visits by the Commission in recent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. APPIC appreciates the importance of ensuring that Commission-designed and administered processes render timely progression through the accreditation process legitimately feasible for programs. Given the significant consequences of accreditation status on students and training programs, the Commission is strongly encouraged to implement strategies to reduce the length of time from self-study submission to accreditation decision. APPIC uniquely appreciates that a doctoral or doctoral internship program's accredited status impacts its eligibility for the APPIC Match, with unaccredited programs afforded only time-limited Match access. General Comment: Thank you for the ongoing work in revising the Standards of Accreditation for Health Service Psychology (SoA) and putting together this document. As you know, this is a critical aspect of obtaining quality graduate student training. APAGS appreciates the diligence and efforts made to ensure graduate students continue to access quality academic and clinical training. With this, we kindly would like to offer two minor suggestions/comments: Comment 1: On the last sentence of the first paragraph, please consider spelling out “APO” to help readers understand its meaning. Comment 2: On page two, where is states: “In unusual situations, the CoA may grant an site visit cycle extension,” please consider directing the reader to either a document, website, or appendix where they can assess the information regarding visit cycle extensions (as it is done throughout the document). Another option could be to modify and/or add some language to the last sentence of the paragrap...
