Disclosure of Education/Training Outcomes and Information Allowing for Informed Decision-Making to Prospective Doctoral StudentsSarahCarroll the new #1 is not sufficiently clear as to what types of policies and procedures CoA is referring to; wouldn't every program in existence have policies and procedures of this type? we have a General Catalog and a Student Handbook where information about what constitutes a passing grade, what comprehensive exams must be successfully completed, timing for defending dissertation proposal, etc. also - you may be introducing typos into #6 - is this what is intended? "the figures reported by a program for 2020 would be number of graduates from the program between 2010 and 2018 who have achieved licensure in the past 10 years divided by the total number of students graduating from the program between 2010 and 2018."

However, that is not stated clearly and obviously institutions have whole handbooks full of policies. I think APA needs to clarify what kinds of policies would be relevant to this new inclusion.

I would recommend more focused language, e.g., "Does your program have policies or practices that specifically apply to individuals on the basis of their sexual orientation, gender identity, religious belief, and/or conduct related thereto?" That is, it's my understanding that this is the content the CoA is requesting and this would allow prospective students to easily understand such policies and practices. Also, I think programs should refer to ALL brochures and websites (that is, plural items) that articulate such.

Disclosure of Education/Training Outcomes and Information Allowing for Informed Decision-Making to Prospective Doctoral StudentsMichaelYoungCOGDOPThe intent of the proposed change to IR C-26 is unnecessarily obfuscatory and the proposed language is left unnecessarily wide open to interpretation. The proposed language appears to try to identify what used to be known as “Footnote 4” exemptions, while attempting to bypass explicit references to religious or other parochial entities. Unfortunately, the language is at the same so expansive as to potentially apply to any university wide policy or practice; exhaustive references to which would be insurmountable. If the goal of the CoA is to have programs disclose specific information that would only be relevant for a small number of institutions, such as those that are religiously affiliated, it is preferred that you target that issue explicitly and leave the vast majority of departments without the distress of figuring out what the CoA wants them to disclose.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT We appreciate the Commission on Accreditation (CoA) seeking input on the recently proposed revisions to Implementing Regulation (IR) C-26 related to APA-Accredited Doctoral Training Program Disclosures. We share the CoA’s concern that all prospective students be informed of important training opportunities and candidate factors that may guide whether they wish to apply or would be a suitable candidate for admission to a doctoral program. Thus, we strongly affirm the importance of the language added by the CoA, which includes the following: 1. Program Disclosures Does the program or institution require students, trainees, and/or staff (faculty) to comply with specific policies or practices related to the institution’s affiliation or purpose? Such policies or practices may include, but are not limited to, admissions, hiring, retention policies, and/or requirements for completion that express mission and values? Disclosure of Education/Training Outcomes and Information Allowing for Informed Decision-Making to Prospective Doctoral StudentsJackieTysonBoard of Educational AffairsBEA appreciates the opportunity to comment on changes to the three Implementing Regulations (IRs) related to the disclosure of program information (C-26 D, C-27 I, and C-23 P; which refer to the information that programs provide for potential and current trainees, including admissions, support, and outcome data) that CoA has put forward. More specifically, the revisions focus primarily on including explicit declarations of program disclosures so that it is clear whether adherence to particular policies or practices are required (e.g., faith-based admission or employment policies). It appears that the intent of these revisions is to make such information about policies and practices more accessible and clear for all. If so, the language of the revision is too general to accomplish the goal. Currently, the revised language asks broadly about complying with policies and practices that are related to the institutions affiliation/purpose, but most institutions have many policies which do... The prompt would be clearer if it was re-written as "Does the program or institution require students, trainees, and/or staff (faculty) to comply with specific faith-based or secular policies or practices related to the institution’s affiliation or purpose? Such policies or practices may include, but are not limited to, admissions, hiring, retention policies, and/or requirements for completion that express mission and values." In addition, the list of post-doc or employment locations has many baffling changes. Removal of VA Medical Centers and Academic Health Centers? Both provide many post-docs and employment for psychologists. Revising Academic Department to Academic teaching? Academic University departments also hire people to provide service.
